This should not be confused with the other species also known as Vietnamese Mint or Rau Răm (Persicaria odorata). It nonetheless, shares the bold and complex flavours of Southeast Asia with Vietnam Mint. This mint remains a distinctive herb revered in Vietnamese and broader Southeast Asian cuisine. With its spicy, peppery, and slightly lemony undertones, it has complex aromatic properties—making it a dynamic and refreshing addition to both garden and kitchen.

Its lance-shaped, glossy green leaves grow on reddish stems and thrive in warm, moist environments, often reaching up to 40–60 cm in height. Vietnam Mint can easily substitute Persicaria odorata is  as a key ingredient in Vietnamese salads like gỏi, in soups such as canh chua (sour fish soup), and in herb baskets served alongside dishes like phở.

This herb’s vigorous, low-growing habit also makes it an attractive choice for containers, kitchen gardens, or decorative herb beds. Once established, it rewards growers with a long season of lush, flavour-packed foliage.
